I love Holiday's, but certain Holiday's can get difficult to be unique, not over-done and/or cheesy. So, it gets tricky to do something other than hearts or four leaf clovers for St. Valentine's Day & St. Patrick's Day.
I try to get creative and think outside the box. Now that my boys are a little older, I really have to tame down the Cutsie factor. They love me decorating for the Holiday's, but they don't want it to look like pre-schoolers live here. They are boys after all. They always let me indulge my Girly side during the Holiday's with no looks or snide remarks. I guess I've successfully brainwashed them. Their wives will love me for it later.
So..... Here are a few ideas.
This is a VERY subtle example of Valentine's Day. It is a combination of a framed copy of the marriage certificate of my Great-Great Grandmother & Grandfather's, I'm so glad someone saved this all these years! Also, I have a book of mythology I found at an antique/junk store and I opened it to the "Eight Brief Tales of Lovers". Maybe too subtle for some people, but don't worry, I added Valentine flare elsewhere.
Here in my entryway is the "Valentine's Day Welcome" that I came up with. I had a tabletop or patio plant holder with no plant or planter to hang from it. I also begged my son Landen for his awesome bow and arrow set. I rigged it to hang from the plant hanger. Then, I hung a little sparkly Valentine heart from it too. I love it next too my bronze lady.
Do you see my biggest Fan observing me? Mr. Darby, wondering what I'm doing. Scarlett our cat, was unimpressed and lounging in her favorite spot by the fire.
I guess the point is, you can have Valentine's Day be more subtle or mature and still be fun! I also wanted to share pictures from my other Valentine's Day posts from years past too. This is where it becomes painfully obvious how much I move my furniture and decor around....don't laugh!
With us homeschooling this year, no need for class Valentine's, but, I want to dress up our schoolroom a bit and do something fun with the boys. Any ideas? Maybe a party of our own? Cupcakes are always a good choice! If I come up with Valentine add-on's, I'll post them.
But, in the mean time, If you want something to perk up your day...You HAVE to go to this youtube link....How 'Bout Cupcakes? The cutest little girl asking for cupcakes. If you have not seen it already or even if you have, she makes you smile and giggle. Enjoy!
